Dr. Subodh Sirur has the unique distinction of being qualified and experienced in the fields of medicine, law and insurance. He is a practising dermatologist and is also a post-graduate in law with specialisation in the consumer laws and laws of crimes and is also a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.
He has appeared before the Consumer Disputes Redressal Agencies in cases of alleged medical negligence on behalf of hospitals, nursing homes and doctors. He has been the practice Head of Medico-legal, Insurance and Clinical trials laws verticals of a law firm in Mumbai. He has also been a member of senior management team and the Chief Administrative Officer of a leading Third-Party Administrator. He has provided opinions on various insurance claims (including death claims, fraudulent claims, health insurance claims, personal accident claims, marine insurance claims and fire insurance claims) and has special interest in “Clinical Trial Liability Insurance”.
He has conducted numerous interactive sessions for doctors and medical associations on law as related to medicine. He has been a faculty for courses in hospital administration and hospital management and has also been invited as a faculty by the Insurance Institute of Insurance. He is a member of several Institutional Ethics Committees of Medical Colleges and medical institutions in Mumbai. He has authored books and contributed articles in peer reviewed journals on law as related to medicine and has also contributed chapters to books in cosmetic dermatology. He has propounded the concept of “Risk Management for doctors and hospitals”.
He is currently the Chairman of the Medicolegal Cell of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADVL) and is one of the editors of a book titled “Medico-legal aspects in Dermatology and Plastic Surgeons”.
